How to Install and Set Up the Scrummy Chrome Extension
The Scrummy Chrome extension brings time tracking and AI ticket improvements directly to your browser. Track time without switching tabs and enhance your Linear and GitHub tickets with AI-powered suggestions.
What the Extension Does
The Scrummy Chrome extension provides two main capabilities:
Time Tracking
- One-click timer: Start and stop a timer from any tab without leaving your current page
- Quick entry: Log time manually with smart duration parsing (e.g., "2h 30m")
- Recent tasks: Quickly select from your most recent work items
- Mini dashboard: See your daily and weekly totals at a glance
AI Product Owner
- Linear integration: AI improvement buttons appear directly on Linear ticket pages
- GitHub integration: Enhance GitHub issues with AI-powered suggestions
- Smart suggestions: Get title improvements, description enhancements, and acceptance criteria
Installation
Step 1: Download from Chrome Web Store
- Open Google Chrome and visit the Chrome Web Store
- Search for "Scrummy" or follow the direct link from your Scrummy dashboard
- Click Add to Chrome
- In the confirmation dialog, click Add extension
Step 2: Pin the Extension
- Click the puzzle piece icon in your Chrome toolbar (Extensions menu)
- Find "Scrummy" in the list
- Click the pin icon next to it
- The Scrummy icon now appears in your toolbar for quick access
Sign In
Connecting to Your Scrummy Account
- Click the Scrummy icon in your browser toolbar
- Click Sign In to Scrummy
- You will be redirected to the Scrummy login page
- Log in with your existing Scrummy credentials (email OTP or Google)
- Grant the extension permission to access your account
- You will be redirected back and the extension will show your dashboard
Tip: Make sure you are already logged in to Scrummy in the same browser for the smoothest experience.
Connect Integrations
Setting Up Linear
For AI Product Owner features on Linear:
- Go to Scrummy > Company Settings > Integrations
- Click Connect next to Linear
- Authorize Scrummy to access your Linear workspace
- Select which teams to sync
- Visit any Linear ticket page and you will see the AI improvement buttons
Setting Up Jira
For time tracking with Jira tasks:
- Go to Scrummy > Company Settings > Integrations
- Click Connect next to Jira
- Authorize Scrummy to access your Jira instance
- Select your project
- Your Jira tasks will appear in the extension timer task selector
Setting Up GitHub
For AI Product Owner features on GitHub:
- Go to Scrummy > AI Product Owner page
- Click Connect GitHub
- Authorize Scrummy to access your repositories
- Select repositories for AI analysis
- Visit any GitHub issue page and you will see the AI enhancement buttons
Using Time Tracking
Starting a Timer
- Click the Scrummy icon in your toolbar
- Select a task from your recent tasks, or type to search
- Click Start Timer
- The extension icon shows a running indicator
- Continue working - the timer runs in the background
Stopping a Timer
- Click the Scrummy icon
- Click Stop Timer
- Add optional notes about what you worked on
- Mark as billable if applicable
- Click Save Entry
Manual Time Entry
- Click the Scrummy icon
- Click Add Time (or the + button)
- Enter the duration (e.g., "1h 30m", "90m", or "1.5h")
- Select the task
- Add a description (optional)
- Choose the date (defaults to today)
- Click Save
Viewing Your Dashboard
- Click the Scrummy icon
- The mini dashboard shows:
- Today's total tracked time
- This week's total
- Recent time entries
- Running timer status
Using AI Product Owner
On Linear Tickets
- Navigate to any Linear ticket page
- Look for the AI Improve button near the ticket title
- Click it to analyze the ticket
- Review the AI suggestions:
- Title: Clearer, more descriptive title
- Description: Enhanced with more detail and context
- Acceptance Criteria: Auto-generated based on the ticket content
- Click Apply to update the ticket, or Dismiss to skip
On GitHub Issues
- Navigate to any GitHub issue page
- Look for the AI Enhance button
- Click for AI-powered improvements
- Review and apply the suggested changes
- The AI uses your repository context for relevant suggestions
Permissions
The extension requests the following permissions:

Troubleshooting
Extension Icon Not Appearing
- Check that the extension is installed: go to
chrome://extensions
- Make sure it is enabled (toggle should be on)
- Pin it to your toolbar (click the puzzle piece icon)
- Try restarting Chrome
Cannot Sign In
- Make sure you have an active Scrummy account
- Try logging in to scrummy.pro in a regular tab first
- Clear the extension data: right-click the icon > Options > Clear Data
- Reinstall the extension if the issue persists
AI Buttons Not Showing on Linear/GitHub
- Verify your Linear or GitHub integration is connected in Scrummy Settings
- Make sure you are on an actual ticket/issue page (not a list view)
- Check that your Scrummy plan includes AI Product Owner (Pro plan required)
- Try refreshing the page
- Check the extension console for errors: right-click icon > Inspect popup
Timer Not Syncing
- Check your internet connection
- Click the Scrummy icon and verify you are still signed in
- Try signing out and signing back in
- Check if your Scrummy account is still active

- Make sure you are running the latest version of Chrome

Currently, the extension is available for Google Chrome and Chromium-based browsers (Edge, Brave, Arc). Firefox support is planned for a future release.
Is my data secure?
Yes. Authentication tokens are stored securely in the browser's extension storage. All communication with Scrummy servers uses HTTPS encryption. The extension does not collect browsing history or personal data outside of Scrummy, Linear, and GitHub domains.
Can I use the extension without a paid plan?
Time tracking features are available on all plans including Free. AI Product Owner features require a Pro plan.
How do I update the extension?
Chrome automatically updates extensions from the Web Store. To check your version, click the extension icon and look at the bottom of the popup, or visit chrome://extensions.
Can I use the extension on multiple computers?
Yes. Install the extension on each computer and sign in with your Scrummy account. Your time entries and settings sync automatically.
How do I uninstall the extension?
